About William Norris

Son of Hannah (Bell) born abt. 1736 in England died Fauquier Co. Va. on May 11, 1796 and William Norris Sr., who was born abt. 1730 in England and died December 15, 1801 in Lewis Co. W.V. William Sr. was appointed First Lieutenant under Patrick Henry, Govenor of Virginia. Being one of their 12 children, William Jr., also served in Revolutionary War in Captain Oldham's Company and marched to Charlotte and joined Campbell's Regiment under General Greene. He was shot in the foot (probably in the Battle of Yorktown), which crippled him for life. His father and brother, also a soldier in the war, met up with him in Eutaw Springs, where he fell from his wound in the leg, but they went on. They never saw each other again, each assuming the other had been killed.
