At least one pedigree published by My Heritage has confused William Ruthven, here treated, with another two quite different people. The first of these is William Ruffin and the second is Alexander Ruthven These bogus pedigrees have also claimed, without offering any proof, that it was William Ruthven, here treated, who married Isoble Reid.
