Death From Drowning. - A magisterial enquiry was held on Saturday, the 30th August, by Mr. J.Blaxland, J.P., on the body of Richard Osborne. Henry Watts, being sworn, deposed :
Yesterday as I was taking the horse in from the Bush Paddock, I saw a hat floating in the pond, and a
waistcoat on the bank ; I stood by the side of the pond and called my mother, who sent me for William
Waring and Andrew Craig ; they both came, when we raked the pond and found the body quite dead ;
saw no appearance of struggling on the bank ; deceased was a very old and infirm man.
William Waring stated, that on Friday Henry Watts came to him, saying, he thought the old man had fallen in the water-hole, and requested me to go with him to help him out ; after raking the pond for some time we found his dead body ; saw no marks of violence upon it.
Henry Watts re-called : I saw him last about 12 o'clock walking in the garden. Mr. G. Wicks deposed, that deceased was a very quiet man, but had been much addicted to drinking until within the last few months. Latterly he had taken a great notion of gathering thistles. He had lived on the farm for the
last 34 years. Verdict, found drowned.
