PFC US ARMY WORLD WAR II Woodrow Wilson Woody Gagnon, 79, formerly of South China and Vassalboro, died Saturday at the Maine Veterans Home, Augusta. He was born at Camp Devens, Mass., a son of Alphie and Mary Bilier Gagnon, and was raised in Fort Kent. He was graduated from Fort Kent High School. On Feb. 26, 1938, he married Laura B. Douchett in Hebron.

During World War II, he served in the Army.

He and his wife lived on Hallowell Road, Chelsea, following his discharge from the service. He operated a poultry farm and hatchery there for 16 years, and during that time was also a cook at the Togus Veterans Hospital, a position he held for 25 years.

For 15 years, he operated Wood's Pizzas in Farmingdale. He and his wife then operated Gagnon's Market on Route 3, Vassalboro, until retiring in 1978.

Mr. Gagnon was a communicant of St. Andrew's Church, Augusta.

Mrs. Gagnon died in 1993. He was also predeceased by a son, Richard, in 1973; and two daughters, Linda Morin in 1983 and Georgette Lankist in 1995.

Surviving are a son, Paul E. of Augusta; three daughters, Helen Lankist of Enterprise, Ala., Marie L. Joy of Litchfield and Ernestine Stoddard of Augusta; a sister, Ernestine Resmini of Augusta; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. (Portland Press Herald (12/8/1997)
