About Yaakov Yehuda (Jack) haKohen Meisels
Jack was the oldest son of R' Shmuel and Feiga Meisels. His parents called him Yankel Leibush. They immigrated to the United States in 1920, when Jack was 15 years old.
Not known who he was named after.
When they lived in Marisch Weiskirchen from 1915-1920, at the age of 10 or 11, he decided to help support the family by making and selling cigarettes. He convinced his parents to borrow money and allow him to go to Prague, where he bought the papers and tobacco. He came back and taught his siblings how to roll cigarettes. When he had enough, he hid them in his pants and his hat, and went off to sell them to soldiers. He came back with the money hidden in his shoes. His mother couldn't believe how much he had earned, and asked him "You didnt steal the money right?" He would stay up late at night rolling cigarettes and go back to sell them during the day.
