Jeanne Marie Kagijonias

I am giving Marie Jeanne's date of birth as abt. 1665 to coincide with the era. Most girls where married as soon as they hit puberty or within in a couple of years (12-16 yrs old) and were usually 5 years younger if not more then their husbands. We know she married Martin Lejeune around 1680 and that his yr. of birth is down as 1661 so based on the times it is safe to assume that she must of been born sometime around 1664 or later.

Marie Jeanne Kagigconiac was an Indian woman, of the canadian Míkmaq (Mi'kmaq or Micmac) tribe. Also part of The Wabanaki Confederacy, as it is known in English, is a historical confederation of five North American Algonquian language speaking Indian tribes.

Mi'kmaw woman. Kagigioniac is the phonetic spelling. Also been spelt: Kagijionas, Kajigoniac, etc. Confirmed at long last as the granddaughter of Henri Membertou, after a long confusion. Sources:

Martin married 2nd around 1698 to Marie GAUDET, daughter of Jean & Jeanne HENRY of Pisiguit; there were eight children [two sets of twins]. Marie GAUDET, born 1682, married Martin LEJEUNE, widower of Marie KAGIGONIAS. !CENSUS: 1686, La Heve (Port la Haine), Acadia, age 28 years [is this 25?], living next door to Pierre LE JEUNE [brothers?]. He is married to Jeanne, "Sauvagesse de nation" [a native north American]. They have 2 children. No land or animals are listed. !CENSUS: 1708, age 45 years.

The census of 1686 listed Pierre Lejeune III as being married to Marie Thibodeau and Martin Lejeune as being married to Marie-Jeanne Kagijonias, a member of the Micmac tribe. After Marie-Jeanne's death, Martin married Marie Gaudet, the daughter of Jehan (Jean) Gaudet and Marie-Jeanne Henry. A 1693 census lists a sister to Pierre III and Martin named Jeanne, who was married to Francois Joseph, a member of the Micmac tribe.

We know, based on Edmee's & Catherine's mtDNA that their mother's maternal haplogroup had to be U6a (Iberian/Portuguese ancestry) since that is what their's is; but,  it doesn't eliminate the possibility that the girl's maternal yDNA could of been native from either the Mi'kmac nation or one of the other tribes within the area, like Maliseet or Montagnais (Present day Innu (not Innuit). 

It has been rumoured that Henri Membertou was the son of a Basque/:Portuguese fisherman and a Mi'kmac mother. Having said this then it would be obvious that his yDNA through his sons to present day should have a European or Portuguese haplogroup if the story is correct. His only daughter "Marguerite" (that we are aware of) her mtDNA to present should be a native haplogroup.

Personally, I would like to see this unknown daughter removed from Louis' tree as we don't have enough evidence to prove that she is his daughter or even one of Louis' brother's daughter. Who knows, maybe she is one of Henri's brother's daughter or granddaughter. At best we can say she was Metis (father native & mother Portuguese) and possibly a member of the membertou clan.
