Jewish Families from Mšec (Kornhaus), Bohemia, Czech Republic

Project Tags

Mšec , which seems to have been universally known by its German name of Kornhaus, during the 19th and early 20th century, is a small town just north of Nové Strašecí. While it does not seem to have had Jewish residents in the 18th century, by the mid-19th century, it had a small Jewish community.

Information about these families is scattered across records in at least three towns: Mšec itself (fond 241, collection 449, covering mostly births from 1841-1863), Nové Strašecí, and Hříškov, the town just to the north.

The Msec registers record the following three families having children in Mšec:

  • Alois Propper and his wife, Johanna nee Kohn (many children)
  • Simon Herzig and his wife, Katherine nee Polack (two children)
  • Janus Propper and his wife, Anna nee Taus[s]ig (one child)
