This project seeks to collect all of the Jewish families from the town of Sulingen (Niedersachsen), Germany.

Sulingen is a town in the district of Diepholz, Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated approximatively 30 km east of Diepholz, and 45 km south of Bremen. Nearby towns are Bassum and Twistringen.

Not to be confused with other towns with the same name in other areas of Germany.

From the International Jewish Cemetery Project:

"BARENBURG bei SULINGEN: 27245 Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen) (Gerz, Peters). DISTRICT: Diepholz.

LOCATION OF CEMETERY: Barenburg - directly at junction of Zum Bahnhof and Mauseburg roads.

IN USE: Possibly as early as from 1740 until around 1925.

NUMBER OF GRAVESTONES:

54 of which 21 have hebrew inscriptions only. Oldest datable gravestone 1809. DOCUMENTATION:

Complete cemetery documentation in preparation by Günter Schmidt-Bollmann PUBLICATIONS: Full cemetery and community history by Arbeitskreises "Jüdische Heimatforschung im Landkreis Diepholz" History by Pape 1970. NOTES: This cemetery was surrounded by a wall and a ditch. It was also used by the Jewish community of Sulingen up to 1846. The cemetery was renovated in 1993, following transfer of ownership to the Association of Jewish Communities in Lower Saxony in 1960.
