Julieta Abad Rufino
National Museum of the Philippines updated their cover photo.
July 17, 2016 ·
A family heirloom as gift to the nation.
Continuing the acknowledgement this month of our generous donors of artworks, we would like to make special mention the gift of the family of Rafael P. Rufino, Sr. It is Fernando C. Amorsolo's 1951 Portrait of Julieta Abad Rufino.
Before marrying Rafael P. Rufino, Sr. Julieta Abad was in 1935 Miss Visayas to Manila Carnival Queen Conchita Sunico. She had seven children and became renowned as a real estate developer-entrepreneur.
During the January 18, 2013 turnover and unveiling of the Rufino portrait, National Museum Trustee Maria Isabel G. Ongpin said: “We are very proud to count the family of Rafael R. Rufino, Sr. to the growing list of the Museum’s benefactors, and on behalf of the Board of Trustees of the National Museum, I have the privilege of extending our deepest gratitude for the very generous and important gift of this fine portrait of Julieta Abad Rufino, which was especially commissioned by her husband Rafael R. Rufino, Sr. from Fernando Amorsolo in 1951. Please be assured that this work of art, so representative of the mastery of the first National Artist, shall always have a prominent place in the public exhibition galleries here in this historic building.”
Come and see this remarkable portrait of Julieta Abad Rufino and more in Gallery IX, National Museum of Fine Arts (Old Legislative Building), Manila.
