15/01/2013 Originating from Woerden (Utrecht) in the Netherlands, this line is traced back to before the 1600's. In 1642 Albertus Costerus was a Notaris in Woerden and became Mayor (Burgemeester) of Woerden during that year. Cornelis Costerus born on 21 September 1899 married Geertje Margje Herpst just before the 2nd world war. 11 children were born from that marriage and the majority of the children emigrated to South Africa during the 1960's. Cornelis died on 12 April 1968 in the Netherlands and Geertje Margje on 14 May 2010 in South Africa. Geertje emigrated to South Africa during August 1969 with the remaining 5 children still living wth her at the time where they arrived in Cape Town on 5 September 1969.(DC8 from Schiphol - stop over Zurich and Congo Brazaville to Johannesburg and by train to Cape Town). 4 of the older children memigrated to South Africa during the early and middle 1960's. Some of the children moved back to Europe (Germany and the Netherlands)during the 1970's. The family line has grown to more then 100 since those years.
