Rajput is not a surname or a family name, the worrior cast in Indian subcontinent , are called Rajput or son of a state , in Hindu social structure Rajputs were given a job to protact the state/country from the outsiders attack , they were the main fighting force , most of the princely states were ruled by the Rajputs in India , durring the invassions from the western frontiers Mougols had allience with Rajputs it was only after the marriage of Akbar to a Rajput princes could rule over India , at present there are scattered all over India . There are muslim Rajputs as well who were converted durring the last 1000 years still feel proud to be called themselfs Rajputs and follow the same traditions. There are two main branches Suryavanshis and the Chanderavanshis with hundreds of Gotras . Rajputs worship the godess , each clan has its godess , at the time of marrige, birth of a son paying respect by visiting the main temple of Goddess is a must.

Mere termine Rajput - how it now sounds - ,applied to local language ,might have been established in India by people of Parthia the párth ( also pa-wa-ratsh ) nation forming their own name to Rach-Pa-Wa-wat . The first was also called by greeks Dionys ,the youngest god , and by brakhmins perhaps Vishnu Déva .
