About the Robichaud surname

I am Yvon Robichaud formally of New Brunswick Canada long line descendants from Louis, and Etienne Robichaud, not only on my father's side but also on my mother's Allain side! My father was raised 2 miles from the original site Charles Robichaud secured when he moved from Port Royal , via Coquibid (Truro) bay. My grandfather Jean Pierre Robichaud, who met my grandmother Christine Richard in Bar Harbour Maine. It is assumed that many Acadians from the St.CHarles area worked there for wealthy people from large cities such as Detroit for example, for likely a generation or 2. Thu the high concentration of Acadian descendents from the eastern seaboard, much of which was considered a part of Acadia a century or more previously. My father spoke of another family in Detroit we are connected to and perhaps even Maine. Up until now I am not able to get any information of the family name in France. Did the name change to avoid persecution? How does a family name that Ancestory claims to have held a family seat in the Seignieury of Trolloland centuries before just vanish? My sone travelled to the area a few years ago but was not able to locate anyone who could help find our ancestors there.
