August Henry Sieks emigrated to the United States from Bunde-Westfalen, Germany in 1892, initially working as a butcher in Boston, Massachusetts. Eventually moving to the midwest, Chicago, and meeting Bertha Ida Otelia Ehn, an immigrant from Sweden and marrying her in 1910 in Chicago, Illinois. August and Bertha moved to Peoria, Illinois and raised a family of ten children on Helen Street in Peoria.
