I have original charcoals of the dour Sir Aemilius and wife Augusta, along with leather bound albums. Concerned that they be maintained well. Have no idea what to do and with immediate family and busy life in general haven't really taken time to look through. Received from my Aunt/Godmother Diana (Clifford) Pilkington from Gram (Margaret Diana, Lukin's daughter) Clifford.

Suggestions?

I am a member of the Clan Irwin Association, http://clanirwin.org/index.php and run the clan booth at the UTA the Texas Scottish Festival & Highland Games, http://www.texasscottishfestival.com/index.htm. I have an several Clan History books I take to the Festival. I would love to have them and then pass them on to the Clan Irwin Association.

Interesting, he's also a decendant from King Valdemar in Sweden.

Sir Æmilius Irving is Ulf Ingvar Göte Martinsson's 19th cousin!

JerryAnn, my first impulse was to raise my hand and ask for the charcoals--after all, I do have quite a good-sized collection of photos, documents, and letters from Sir Aemilius and his descendants.

But really, I think the most appropriate place for these valuable artifacts would be the Library and Archives of Canada, or failing that, the public archive at Hamilton, which Sir Aemilius represented as member of Parliament in the MacKenzie government. These archives would have the facilities to properly preserve, catalogue, and make the pictures and albums available to interested researchers, family members as well as public. They would also be able to cross-reference them with other family materials, such as the Jacob Aemilius Irving fonds which I believe are held at Queen's Park.
