For now, I chose to apply the former because of the quality of two sources:

Number one is an official source from the Québec Clergy. Number two is an official source from the Gouvernement of Québec. It is hard not to give added weight to such official sources.

From these sources we learn that this profile was granted the concession of the "Seigneurie des Écureuils" in 1672.

The "Dictionnaire" states that the name of the parish established at that seigneurie, called "Saint-Jean-Baptiste-de-Écureuils" parish, was named in honour of the first owner "Jean Toupin, Sieur du Sault" (i.e. this profile). The "Commission" states that the concession was given to "Jean-Baptiste Toupin" and his son "Jean-Baptiste".
