In the 1875 Norway Census, he is 28 and living with his parents. There was a place to record a disability or illness, and in that place it says sindsvaag.
I tried to use an on-line tool to translate that and it comes up as "since blurred" - does that mean a mental illness, or confusion?
I find it quite interesting because his name was never mentioned to me when I interviewed an elderly relative many years ago. She was over 80 years old at the time . She could name her mother's sisters and 3 brothers, Peter, Theodore, and Ole. No mention of Gunerius.
Also, I am researching his brother Peter Olsen Brandvold, yes he went by Brandvold in the U. S. As of right now, it looks like Peter spent many years in a state run hospital, which served three purposes.
1. Addiction issues
2. Mental Issues
3. Tuberculosis
So far, I don't have absolute proof of this, but I do think it is true.
