I initially thought that this was a tragic event, but it turns out to be a place name and its postal code. This is a link to the Synagogue there,

Presumably the Jewish community have some records specifically for those who share their religion, but my researches have no religious basis and are therefore more general. In fact I am finding difficulty locating any Birth, Marriage or Death registrations from there.

Yad Vashem provides the names of 59 Jewish residents of Mad who had their lives taken from them during the Holocaust.

I have just read this short illustrated text on Mad's Jewish losses, and saw a couple of names within it (such as a Mariann Frank and Susy Oster who was born Zsuzsanna Zimmermann in 1928 and now lives in the United States) that might be worth trying to contact.

It is indeed very difficult to get information from Màd. My husbands ancestors came from there , we have no information on :
Akiva Stern (1805)
Neche Stern ( born ???) 1824
Julianna Stern ( supposedly born in Màd) 1824
can anyone help ????

There should be church books (unless burned) in Hungarian communities and also in Mád from the 19th and early 20th century.
Is there anybody in geni who knows about the existece and availability of these documents and is able to read them?

The yadvashem list shows 2 Sterns and 2 Grossmans but no relative connection.

>> Roy C Grant I have been in contact with Mariann Frank , she did give me some information on the family we are looking for but we are not sure the name of the parents is right as we found no further information about them. The children moved to Budapest.

>> Gerhard As this family is Jewish there are no records of them, unless in the Synagoge but there is no information there because it was destroyed. I've tried Yad Vashem too.

Hi Sylvia
I have sent you a message asking for a link to your tree in the hope that I can help you in some way.

I understand that the synagoge was destroyed and so the books.

However, Grossmans were landowners and winefarmers, they paid tax, maybe they sold or buyed land. Shouln't there be a clue?

I am now in touch with Sylvia directly, and using her immediate ancestors' Budapest records to help her correct a few minor errors she may have obtained from elsewhere.

Mád belonged to the Habsburg Empire until 1918 with (I guess) an excellent administration concerning taxes and land property.

The synagogue of Mád had not been destroyed totally - renovated during 2000-2004.

The synagogue caretaker is Barnabás Fehér. (2014) - I will try to contact him.

You could try Mariann Frank. She will help, if,she can find the right information that is, in Màd. I wrote to the head Rabbi in Budapest who passed my request on to Mariann. However authorities in Màd are not very helpful. You could also try Arolsen Archives, they have lists of people persecuted by the Nazi's. I found several of our relatives there.
