John Ruthven is the only known child of George Ruthven and Elspet Hutchesone. He was born before 4 May 1688, the date upon which his baptism was registered at St. Ninians parish in Stirlingshire, Scotland. His baptismal record reads as follows: "George Ruthven [and] Elspet Hutchesone [a son named] John [witnesses] James & David Hutchison". [National Records of Scotland, St. Ninians Baptisms, 1688-1731, reference OPR.488/2] A link to an image of his baptismal record follows:

At least one pedigree published by MyHeritage claims that John Ruthven is the same person as the Music Master of the same name who married Marion Peadie, settled in Glasgow, and had a family, although no proof of relationship is offered. A link to the pedigree published by MyHeritage follows:

The claim made by the pedigree published by MyHeritage is disputed by a pedigree published in The Ruthven Family Papers, which claims that Marion Peadie's husband was the son of a music professor who was also named John Ruthven, although no proof of relationship is offered. A link to the pedigree published in the Ruthven Family Papers follows:

Unequivocal evidence would be welcomed.

I am puzzled by the fact that you have uploaded a copy of the first page of the testament dative of Sir John Ruthven of Dunglass, who died in May 1658, to the profile of Mr. John Ruthven, music master in Glasgow, who died before 15 February 1732.

Name excepted, they are not connected with each other, so far as I known, but if you have discovered a link I would be pleased if you would share it.

i also; found old notes
there was a guy from the 'parks' family
he told me Ruthven was spelled also as Ruven
and, he had a wife of Isobel or issobelle Parks
and, i see you mention her as ISOBEL PARK
i wonder if that is the REAL MISSING link
i'll need to look at that profile
more closely - thanks :)

the reason it loaded up to the one profile
was, i wanted you to look thru the 50 entries
i made there; and; sort them all out to the proper places
you are far more adept at that, than i am

thanks; susan

William without the E is the modern spelling of this popular Christian name, but you should add the E if you feel that it is important to use this seventeenth century variation. A link to William Ruthven's profile follows.
