Lord John Chilcote

A review of the family of John Chilcott:

There are a few problems with the family of John Chilcott (b: 1639) and wife Ann Joan?

Firstly, ‘Lord’ John Chilcott’s death is presently recorded as 1670, but no citation can be found. The date is important as a number of children have been attributed to John and Ann after his death in 1670.

The Geni record shows there to be 17 children from the marriage.

On closer inspection, the following can be immediately deleted:
• Humphrey John Chilcoat - b: 1665; Maryland, USA
• Mary Tipton nee Chilcott - b: 1673; Maryland, USA
There is no evidence that John & Ann Chilcott left Stogumber let alone moved to the US

The following baptismal records have been sighted and uploaded to the respective records:
• John Chilcott - 1665;
• George Chilcott - 1667; buried 1667;
• George Chilcott - 1668;
• Richard - 1669; and
• Ann - 1672

All were born/baptised in Stogumber, Somerset

Ann’s father is given as John, but given the time lapse between the births of Richard & Ann, it is possible Ann is from a different family?

The following have records available for birth/baptism, but to a different family:

• Sarah - 1667; Sarah’s father is given as George;
• Christian - 1679; noted as the daughter of George & Christian;
• Johan (Joane?) - 1665; daughter of Giles, or 1667; dau. Of George ;
• William - 1680; son of Abraham;

The following have no records available for birth/baptism; the Stogumber Parish records have been checked also:

• Harry (Henry?) - 1673
• Peram;
• Christopher;
• Ages (Agnes?);
• James;
• Agnes

There is a Find A Grave record for John Chilcott that outlines a number of children https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/173403038/john-chilcott

However the records are unfounded and the record states that no headstone was found. At this stage, these records should be discounted until definite details are found. As the record states John’s interment in Dunster, not Stogumber, it is probable this relates to a different family
