@joel "joseph" weed

Joel Weed that lived in Mississippi was not the son of ephraim weed. According to his grandchilds christening record, he was from either north or south Carolina. Dna has also shown that the descendants of joel are not related to the weed families of new England. The new England weed families are haplotype g, joels descendants are haplotype r1b1c1.

The primary source records for him ALWAYS say joel. The records that say joseph are christening records for his children, for which he wasn't even present. He signed his name Joel, not Joseph, as well.

Joel had 5 known children
Eloise b? md John Bell (eloise was the daughter of Joels first wife Marie Hem)
Benjamin
Hannah
Elizabeth
William

The four younger children were with Margaret gwaltney. Hannah and Benjamin stayed with Margaret in Louisiana. Elizabeth and William were in Mississippi with joel. They had been in Louisiana, but after Margaret had a child by joseph Collins out of wedlock in 1813, it appears that joel took them. According to the christening record for the child, Margaret Collins, she was the bastard daughter of Margaret gwaltney and joseph Collins who the record calls "a free mulatto" of this parish. Margaret gwaltney continued to live with and had other children with joseph Collins. In 1813, Elizabeth would have been 16 or 17, and William would have been 12. Elizabeth married Ephraim Drigus. He died shortly after and no further record has been found of Elizabeth. William weed lived in Adams County Mississippi. Joel weed sold land to joseph Collins in 1813. Really cheap. It's right that the cheap land was a deal to get the children from Margaret.

Joels date of birth is unknown but was most likely around 1755 to 1760. He was married, presumably to first wife Marie Hem, in 1782 . Their one known child, Eloise was born around this time.

Joels date of death is also unknown. He appears on an 1819 tax list. However he does not appear on the 1820 census as a had of household. So he could have died in 1819/1820.

Agreed and done.
