Richard ‘the Malster’ Kent - What is a "malster"?

For the life of me, I cannot understand what "the malster" is supposed to mean. Nothing in the biographical information explains this. At first I suspected it might be a typo and what was really meant was "master", but apparently not. Could it actually mean "maltster"? At least that was an occupation of the time (one who crafts malts for brewing ales and whiskeys).

Appears to be a variant of maltster, as you suspected.

Definition of maltster : a maker of malt for use in brewing or distilling Their ability to proceed properly depends upon the skills of the plant-breeder, the farmer, the maltster, the microbiologist and the brewer.
