This John has attached named

John Lott Sr. - wouldn't be Sr., for one thing, since his father should be John Sr.

John Lott, Sr.

Aaron Lott III

Aaron Lott III

John 'Aaron' Lott

John "Aaron" Lott, Jr.

Same-name siblings can be confusing and while it did occur, it's always worth double-checking for accuracy. Are we sure this John actually had two sons named John and two who went by the name Aaron? There's not really anything in the About sections giving primary sources for these connections.

Thanks in advance for any additional documentation and clarification.

SO, those names got put like that in Baron's book, which that is because no one can understand the dna until the 100s of Lott cousins showed up on 23andMe and have been saying for years that John Lott Cypruss of FL, as we agreed to name him here on Geni, is the same as John Lott, Sr. But, then about 50 Gedcoms got piled into Geni and that was the way it panned out on Geni, for a bit. Now, I give up looking at it because, it may have been changed and it is really very hard to FOR SURE know on paper, what we know on the dna. What is not on paper is meant not to be on paper and there were so many John Lotts their Portuguese Azorian Iberian Lotoya Island mapped New Spain connection are completely ignored, except dna will find it out and has. The Pounds and Lott Cemetary in Cheraw, MS were secretive, for reasons.

Source names the John Lott who married Elizabeth Joyner as “John Lott, Sr.” - which does not mean he wasn’t the son of a John Lott.

That is true. There were so many John Lotts in that family, even 2 by 2 different mothers.

Love this point:

http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~jcbarron/genealogy/lott/LottColonial...

I believe that a major problem with Lott research stems from the use of the name suffixes Sr. and Jr. Genealogists learn, often belatedly, that these don't necessarily indicate father and son, and should always be interpreted as "the elder" and "the younger" until shown otherwise. And, furthermore, as time progresses juniors may well become seniors. However, Lott researchers have tended to identity almost any Colonial southerner named John Lott, Jr. as the John supposedly born in North Carolina in 1742.(10) In this paper I will attempt to differentiate between the several men shown in the early records as John Lott, Jr. and draw conclusions concerning their linkages.

Private & Marsha Gail Veazey - can you offer any clarification on the John Aaron Lotts? Or should I disconnect John Sr?

They are the way they should be, currently. John Sr should not be disconnected and the John Lott of Citrus Co, FL is the same as John Lott - Founder of Marion Co, MS who served Pugh's Southern Tuscorora's Rev War Militia for 10 years, is probably the same as the LIcking Creek militia gatherer. John Aaron Lott pf Licking Creek and John Lott Founder of MS = same. John Lott of Cyprus, FL and speculator of Tatnois Swamp Bertie Co and also Talnais, GA lands = Same father of the Founder of Marion Co, MS.

The reason it is the way it should be is that currently it lists the names of the people as they were known to their contemporaries of the time.
