Reading the notes in the About section, it seems this family strongly identified as Choctaw, not Cherokee or Old Cheraw. Right/

Yes they are predominantly Choctaw, however there were originally 12 associated bands under the Texas Cherokee one of which was the Choctaw who moved in to East Texas. They were included in the 1836 Treaty and the remaining Choctaw families left after the Battle of the Neches were absorbed into the Texas Cherokee (Tsalagiyi Nvdagi). Chief William Donaho Jr. Was my 6th great Uncle.

Gotcha.

Interesting that he's your 6th great-uncle. He's a 'sort of' inlaw connection to me in that your uncle David Donaho's daughter Martha 'Patsy' Donaho married my 1st cousin 5x removed William Morgan on my mother's side.

There always seems to be a connection by blood and/or marriage to all the families.

I think this info is on Chief William's father from the SC Archives and puts him in SC in the present day Laurens County area (formerly part of the Ninety Six District in late 1700s.
