The BigY-700 YDNA test shows that this Williams line descends from a Martin male, who is very possibly the father of John James Williams. My 2nd cousin, also a direct descendant of John James Williams, also matches the same Martin males. There is zero evidence in the paper trail to indicate who his father was, or that he came from Watauga, Watauga County, North Carolina. We base our evidence on what he consistently told the census-takers, which was that he was born in Virginia. He married Katherine in what is now Scott County, Virginia, and they had three small children before migrating to the original Floyd County, Kentucky, circa 1821.

If anyone has proof of the Watauga angle, please share it and/or contact me.

I am also an administer of the private Facebook page, Williams family of Oil Springs, devoted to descendants of John James Williams.
