Hi Erica,
This will take me a bit to check out further but at first glance it would appear I just went with the Find A Grave info without questioning it.

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/105658194/margaret-vanbebber

I know FAG is far from perfect but unless I notice something like them giving my GGM Eliza Noe the name Elizabeth Noe (I can't even get them to look at the gravestone name that they have posted...Eliza...not Elizabeth), I will usually miss mistakes until someone points them out.

I'm no expert on Chrismans/Christmans/Crismans/Crismons before or after their being made to take the "t" out of their names when a branch of them became Mormon. I do have some old paper files about the Christman family that I'll try to dig through to see if I have any definitive information.

Ah, I see you and I are 10th cousins once removed, Hello cousin!

Okay, I can't find anything except FAG that says she is My 6GGF's daughter. I haven't looked at your tree. Do you have a father for her? Is it Isaac Van Bibber?? I'll do more hunting later. Let's remove Isaac as her dad in Geni. That would affect Jane Scott also. This is where I'm lost with Geni. I need a curator to detach Isaac as her dad don't I??

Well, the day is beginning here in Michigan, so I'l check on this more later tonight.

Thank,
Hal/Harold Simon

Hi Hal,

All I got is the FindAGrave also:

“Here John Davis Van Bibber met and married [[Margaret Van Bebber Margaret Van Bebber] Margaret "Peggy" Chrisman], oldest daughter of Isaac Chrisman and Jenny Scott. Isaac was among the first white settlers to settle this far west and was killed at the Chrisman fort by Indians in 1776.” [??Cannot find this Peggy in the Chrisman Pedigree - < link >

Hi again Erica,

This has really got me checking out my Chrisman relatives whom I've neglected as I've been concentrating on my Simon GGpa's lately working on biographies. Anyway, I think this Margaret is the same as yours:

Margaret Van Bebber

You disagree on husbands but both have the same son Issac Van Bebber, but those birthdates and mothers don't match:

#1 Issac: Issac C. Van Bebber, Sr.

#2 Issac: Issac C. Van Bebber, Sr.

I guess there is a real mystery here. I'm gonna keep digging and I'll keep an eye out for your decisions on these matters.

yours, Hal

Hi Harold R Simon Jr

I’m liking the FindAGraves for this family, aren’t you? They are detailed and make sense. I’m thinking the difference between Maj. Isaac Van Bibber & John Davis Van Bibber is that perhaps they’re brothers, perhaps even both had a son Isaac after grandpa - but only one was married to Peggy Chrisman, whoever she was. So if you agree, we should merge.

Harold R Simon Jr - Ive been looking through the old Van Bibber newsletters, and I’m now convinced Margaret Chrisman Van Bibber is likely for real. This looks like a careful narrative:

https://freepages.rootsweb.com/~blogan/genealogy/v01n01.html

Most of the research I have (about 50 3" binders) is based on descendants of Isaac VAN BIBBER, I., of Point Pleasant battle (Oct 10, 1774). He and wife, Sarah DAVIS, had seven children. I can document the name of six of those children. Five of the six children I document went to CLAIBORNE County, Tennessee by 1796, and helped to establish Fort YOAKUM with brother-in-law, George YOAKUM, I., and remained in this area. John VAN BEBBER, Sr., one of the children of Isaac and Sarah, purchased 3250 acres in the newly established HENDERSON Grant of Powell Valley. He immediately began colonizing this land by selling farms to family and friends. This was still in Indian disputed territory at this time and was not recognized by U.S. Government until two years later.

John married Margaret CHRISMAN, oldest daughter of Isaac CHRISMAN, I., and Jean/Jenny SCOTT of Southwest Virginia. Isaac CHRISMAN was killed in Washington County Virginia by hostile Indians in 1776. Jean remarried to Nathaniel HIX.

The VAN BEBBER's moved to the area around late 1785 or early 1786. With the party were: George YOAKUM, I., and bride, Martha (Patty/Patsy) VAN BIBBER; Peter VAN BEBBER, Sr., and new bride, Eleanor/Ellen/Nelly VAN BIBBER (first cousin, and daughter of Peter VAN BIBBER, II., and Margery BOUNDS); Robert HOWARD and wife, Nancy VAN BEBBER; John VAN BEBBER, and James VAN BEBBER.

Younger brother, Isaac VAN BIBBER, II., stayed behind with mother, Sarah DAVIS/VAN BEBBER and her new husband, William GRIFFEY. He later was informally adopted (meaning he stayed in the family of) Col. Daniel BOONE. He migrated west into Kentucky with BOONE and later to Missouri where he became wealthy owning and operating a health spa with hotels and cabins. He married the grand daughter of BOONE, Elizabeth HAYS, the daughter of William HAYS and Susannah BOONE. ….

Thanks to a suggestion from Earl Harvey, I went to the archives of the Van Bibber Pioneers E-Newsletter and found a posting in March 1998 (Vol 2, No. 5) that gave me the prooof I needed for Margaret Chrisman being daughter of Isaac Chrisman and Jean/Jinny (Scott)! It was included in John VanBebber's Power of Attorney to his son Issac, dated 27 February 1814.This was a wonderful piece of the puzzle that I needed.

Margaret Chrisman VanBebber was my GGGG Grandmother. She was definitely for real. She married John VanBebber in Russell County, VA, about 1786-1787. They remained there on the Powell River at Yokum Station until about 1795, when they moved further down the Powell Valley to what is now called VanBebber Springs in Speedwell, Claiborne County, TN. They had 11 known children. My GGG Grandfather, Isaac VanBebber (John and Margaret's son), was born on April 30, 1790 at the Yoakum Station area of Russell County. HIs name is on the Power of Attorney made by John VanBebber, Sr., for him to go to Virginia and inquire about the estate settlement of Isaac Chrisman. The court record minutes of Claiborne County also confirm that this Power of Attorney was brought into the court and ordered to be recorded. John VanBebber had purchased one half of Lot B in the Henderson Grant and moved to Tennessee just prior to the state being formed. They built a new Yoakum Station there in Claiborne County near the Davis Creek on land of George Yoakum (his brother-in-law) that fell into Lot C. John VanBebber was a County Court Commissioner in Grainger County, and then later in Claiborne County when it was formed in 1801. He remained in this position until he resigned in 1815 upon the death of his son, John VanBebber, Jr., in the War of 1815.

Great! More evidence supporting the pedigree.
