Mary Maugridge (Melton) - Boone Controversy

Mary Milton is agreed to be the known name of the mother of Mary Milton Maugridge. The individual identified has a christening date and a known birth location that is about 200 miles from where John Milton II (the poet) was living at the time of his daughter's birth with the same name. Also, none of his other children have christening records.

There are records of a Richard Melton being born in Oxfordshire around 1595 and having a wife named Margaret Melton, both of whom died in Charles City VA. These are the names of the parents listed on the christening record for Mary Milton. None of the other RIchard Meltons (or similar) born in the UK around that time had a wife named Margaret. These are almost certainly the parents of Mary Milton, mother of Mary Militon (formerly Maugridge).

There are people who trying to link Daniel Boone to John Milton (the poet) and so they try to say that this Mary Milton had two husbands or that John Milton's daughter was married and no one knew. The weird thing is, Richard Melton IS linked to John Milton, just not a descendent. Richard Melton is undisputedly John Milton's cousin. His father, Thomas was the brother of John Milton the poet's father, John Milton Sr..
