Johne Stewart of Stirlingshire or Buchanan and Isobell Gardiner
https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LDJ1-ZYQ

Father Johne came to the New World via New York in 1699.

I know the LDS church does a one of research, so could be something here.

John Stewart is presently identified as the son of John Stewart and Issobell Gardiner. This couple did have a son named John whose baptism was registered at Stirling on 3 March 1677, but I have not seen any evidence which proves that this child is the man of the same name who married Jacomina Demarest on 29 March 1700, at the Dutch Reformed Church in Hackensack, New Jersey. Can anyone provide this?

In my searches, which I admit have not been super extensive... I'm just a dude, not a genealogist, I follow my family line back to a "John Stewart" that married Jacomina Des Marets.... that John seems to be either attached to Johne Stewart of Buchanan and Isobel Gardiner, or Alexander Stewart (Stirling Merchant) and Beatrix Mushet.
I can't find any "hard" evidence, just want the internets can provide.

In view of the fact that there is no evidence of relationship I would suggest that he should be disconnected from the family tree of John Stewart and Issobell Gardiner. Do you agree?

sure, break it, I guess. Even the source material indicate other parents. I'm currently tracking down some documentation elsewhere, though I'm not confident I'll be able to obtain it.

Reading through the Des Morets book sections, it appears John was part of the Darien Scheme... wow. The man who states he new John, brother-in-law James Christie, was also a part of that expedition.
Trying to track down if there is any connection between Johne and Isobell funding the Darien Scheme that would lend any credence to this connection.

Jeffrey,

John Stewart is presently identified as the son of John Stewart and Issobell Gardiner. This couple did have a son named John whose baptism was registered at Stirling on 3 March 1677, but I have not seen any evidence which proves that this child is the man of the same name who married Jacomina Demarest on 29 March 1700, at the Dutch Reformed Church in Hackensack, New Jersey.

Are you able to provide evidence of relationship, or is this just a guess?

No, I cannot provide evidence, as noted above. I have also removed the connection already. In the book about the Des Marets family, the brother-in-law James Christey also states he was leaving Scotland due to becoming Protestant which his father did not agree with. A father named as Sir Johne Stewart.
I'm at a bit of a loss as to where to go from here. I've been looking for ship passenger manifests, and a few other things about this John, and searching for more information about Johne and Isobell Gardiner.

Following.

Presbyterian, not Protestant... Don't think that helps... the search continues.
