I saw a message posted in 2009 on a genealogy web forum with someone looking for more information on James Botts Gailbreath, and that person stated that they had discovered that there were actually two Dr. James B. Gailbreaths in Texas at that time. I don't remember if the B for the second one also stood for Botts. I was wondering if whoever added the attachment about James Botts being in the Civil War was actually the correct James B. Gailbreath if what I saw on that old forum was true. Also, if he was a doctor it seems odd that he would be listed as a private unless that was normal in those days.

Johnnie Ruth Head always referred to him as James Botts and stated that he was in the Civil War. I may have added that information strictly based on Family Lore. I will look and see what records I found at the National Archives next time I'm at my storage unit. As full-time RVers I can't carry all my books of Genealogy around with me all the time. I looked in Ancestry but the copy of the civil war record there isn't really clear. I will let you know.
