Henry Merrow of Reading MA

Started by Cynthia G Bolivar on yesterday

My 8th Gr Grandfather Henry Merrow, was born in Inverness Scotland in 1865. He was taken prisoner at the Battle of Dunbar, and brought to the Saugus Iron Works in the colonies as an indentured servant. From there he was sent to Woburn, where he eventually gained his freeman status. He had saved enough money to purchase a lot of land, and build his own home. That land was purchased from James Stimpson of Reading. It is believed that Henry built one of the first homes in what was later determined to be Reading, MA. His grandson Henry Merrow (1686-1761) married Abigail Parker, granddaughter of Deacon Thomas Parker of Reading. This union is important to me as my husband is a descendant of the same Deacon Thomas Parker - uniting our families long before we knew each other!
