Before post it on wiki.geni com
http://wiki.geni.com/index.php/Naming_Conventions
I want to discuss it there.

draft:
Russian Naming Conventions:
Name as close to original name as possible, language, geography and time period to be taken into consideration
Russian names for Russian speaking people as far as possible
Patronymics in the Middle Name field
Titles usually go in the Last Name field
Adjust First Name field to avoid misunderstandings or mistaken identity where necessary, by adding order/number or byname.
Maiden names are normally avoided as there were none at the time
All names a person is known by in any source listed in Nicknames: bynames (especially in English), additional titles, variations.

and questions:
1) How we name spouses from other Countries?
2) How we Name russian Females who maried with foreign man ?
3) How we name their child?
4) How we name them who live a lot of time outide Russia especialy their child?

We have several such threads, but since I am not at my main PC I don't have the links to them, so by bumping this discussion to be more public someone else will probably add them.

I agree that the national names always should be used, but for for popular profiles known outside their region we have to compromise like the use of Hebrew spelling in the biblical lines because the majority of Geni users does not know how to read Hebrew, Cyrillic and Greek letters.

In any case use the Nicknames fields for variants, - hopefully Geni will come with better tools for i18n later on.
