The Coffee family lived quite near the Houghs. In the 1870 census, they are neighbors. What is even more interesting in this story of widespread mayhem is that the Coffees, Houghs, Hickerson/Snyders, & Rachford Snyders were all relative/neighbors in 1870.... So the killing of a Hough by a Rachford sixteen years later was, shall we say, an undertaking that was not "at arm's lenghth"... to put it mildly...
