      1. Eloi1 Pelletier was born about 1575 in Perche, France. He married Francoise Matte. She was born about 1575 in Perche, France.

Notes for Eloi Pelletier: He was a (marchand de bois) wood merchant. The name PELLETIER comes from the Latin pellis, which means furrier, one who buys, sells, or prepares furs or pelts, or one in the fur trade. The ancient Greeks and Romans regarded the wearing of furs as barbaric, but by the fifth century, the taste for rare and valuable fur-lined coats had taken the West by storm. In France, for in-stance, Charlemagne used to wear a doublet lined with otter skins during the winter. Moreover, by 1346, the fur merchants of Paris had their own special status and privi-leges. It comes as no surprise, therefore, that these many tradesmen adopted and passed along the Pelletier family name. The Pelletier Family Association website (where I got most of my Pelletier information) offers its readers a summary of the lives and times of the Pelletiers who came to settle in New France. Many of the descendants of these first pioneers still bear the Pelletier name, while other lines disappeared after only a few generations.

He married Francoise Morin 19 Aug 1647 in Notre Dame de Québec City, QC; born about 1620 in St. Jean of Perrot, La Rochelle, France; died Bet. 25 Feb 1663 - 1666 in Sillery, Québec. Canada.

There are documents in the genealogy archives of the Paris National Library that indicate that the Pelletiers from Perche are probably descendants of Barthelémy Le Pelletier of Brittany. Barthelémy was given the Perche forest by the French King, Charles V, as a reward for his bravery in the battle of Thouars, in Poitou, August 7, 1372. His profession or metier du pere was as wood seller or marchand de bois in France. in Canada his job was as a coal merchant or Marchand Charbonnier.

FROM IMMIGRATION PAPER (ATTACHED) "It is not in the family house "la Cristerie" the following deeds are a Tourouvre (st-aubin) three sons are baptized: Claude the 11-02-1622 Guillaume the 26-02-1624 and Jean (pioneer) the 12-6- 1627 His brother Antoine Pelletier is born in Bresolettes. Her parents-in-law are Guillaume Mabille and Etiennette Monhe, of whom three children are baptized. Michelle the 20-5-1592. Thoinette on 12-4-1599 and guillaume on 3-11-1601 A Plaque is affixed in the church of Bresolettes in 1977 and a stele is erigee in 1991 in front of the church in Courville"
