≤p>Zelman lived in Bobrynets, Ukraine, had a house, a bunch of cattle, and "even a butter churn". He sent all his children to university in Rostov. The first four (Shimon, Aba, Israel, and Fira)got a medical education and became doctors. When it was time for the fifth child, Isaac (Mitzek) to go to school, Fira and Israel took him on a tour and showed him the morgue. He was so appalled by what he saw that he quickly changed disciplines and decided to study engineering. Right around the same time the revolution and civil war was happening. Zelman's first son, Shimon, died in the earlier days of the conflict. The family is not clear whose side he was one, Red or White. Zelman decided not to wait for "raskulachivnie". He sold his house and his livestock and moved the rest of the family to Rostov in the early 1920s. Isaac graduated and bit later and was assigned to work in Taganrog (just an hour away from Rostov). His younger brother, Naum, studied together with another Naum Solov'ev, who had an older sister Esfir. At some point, the two introduced their older siblings, Isaac and Esfir, to each other. They fell in love, got married, and Isaac took Esfir back with him to Taganrog. In 1931 their first daughter, Alla, was born. Then in 1938 their second daughter, Lyudmila was born. During the war, Zelman, Masya, and a few of his grand children (Lenya and Ilya) were evacuated to Khazakhstan. Zelman died there in evacuation. Masya and two grandkids eventually reunited with Isaac and his family who were evacuated to Samara (Kujbyshev)≤/p>
