About Prince Lev Sergeyevich Obolensky

Lev Obolensky (September 05, 1926 - December 07, 2010)

Lev Obolensky BOVINA _ Prince Lev Sergeyevich Obolensky, 84, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 7, 2010, at his home in Bovina. The son of the late Sergei Vladimirovich and Katharina Vladimirovna (Euler) Obolensky, he was born Sept. 5, 1926, in Bourg-la-Reine, near Paris, France, and grew up in Prague, Czech Republic, where he was educated and received his PhD from Charles University. An international economist, Lev later lived in Switzerland before coming to New York City in the early 1950s, where he worked for the State Department, Irving Trust Company, and served as executive secretary for the United Nations Capital Development Fund. A Bovina resident since 1981, he was also a poet and sculptor. He was a good and gentle man. He is survived his wife of 30 years, Larisa Obolensky; a daughter and son-in-law, Alexandra and Joseph Gulli of Katonah; two grandsons, Jose and Sergio Lloreda; and two nephews; and predeceased by a brother, Vladimir Obolensky. Friends are invited to attend funeral services, 11 a.m, Friday, Dec. 10, at St. James' Church, Lake Delaware. The Rev. Father Roman Krasovsky, of Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Monastery, Jordanville, will officiate. Burial will be in Bovina Cemetery, followed by a reception at St. James' Parish Hall. Memorial contributions to Bovina EMS will be appreciated. May today there be peace within. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith. May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content knowing you are a child of God. Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us. Saint Theresa's Prayer Arrangements entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi.
