In 1944 he became a lecturer at the Faculty of Science in Clermont-Ferrand (1944) and then in Strasbourg (1945), where he was appointed director of the Institute for Nuclear Research. He devoted his work to particle physics and nuclear physics, studying the diffusion of alpha particles on hydrogen nuclei, cosmic radiation and, more generally, nuclear reactions and nuclear structure.
