About R' Mayer Wirschler

possible http://www.steinheim-institut.de/cgi-bin/epidat?id=wrm-3043&lang=de

here:http://www.steinheim-institut.de/cgi-bin/epidat?id=ffb-906 we have him as Maharam וירשלר here:http://www.steinheim-institut.de/cgi-bin/epidat?id=ffb-3880 as Meir וירשליר he is mentioned in a footnote on page 740 in this edition of tractate Bava Batra https://hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=37965&pgnum=1 as Maharam וירשלר,

The Hebrew name is pretty clear but the German record are pretty confusing, here is what I have on him: Meir Wirsler is definitely Meir Fritzlar, so that is where the word Wirsler comes from.

it is easy to see the transition from Fritzlar to Wirsler when one looks at how his name is written in Andernacht #3027. This is a record from January of 1499 giving a residency permit to Stral von Rheinbach and Freye, his wife, and his brother in law Meir von Firslar and his wife. This permit was being arranged for in advance (it was to begin on 15 July) and shows how they knew they were going to have to get out of Nuernberg and were making arrangements for the future. (And then they call us “wanderers” – you have to either laugh or cry...) Anyway, we can see from words like Feibisch and Weibisch that they must have pronounced F very close to today’s V, so this “Firslar” is unquestionably Wirsler.

In addition to being in the Kessel the 1502 list, Meir is also in the roten Rose in the 1499 list (And. #3084.6), newly arrived, and living with the Zaks, and also in the list from late 1503 And.#3347.25). which does not show house names. Most intriguingly, there is a record Andernacht .#3525 from Sept. 1507 referring to a pawned item, where he (just called “Meir”, but it is clear that it is our Meir) is now living in Worms. Unfortunately, there had just been a house list in Worms in 1505, probably just before his arrival.
