BLAND, Lieut. WALLACE G.
The Adjutant General's Office, Washington, has notified J. Grady Bland, Hanceville, that his son, First Liuetenant Wallace Grady Bland, American Air Force, has been missing in action in Sicily since July 10. No other information has been received.
A nephew of Earny Bland, of this city, Lt. Bland was a graduate of St. Bernard College and of the University of Alabama, and practiced law here one month before he enlisted in the Air Corps two years ago.
He was a member of the 48th Fighter Squadron of the 14th Fighter Group, and had been recommended for promotion to a captaincy shortly before he disappeared. He has served overseas for nine months, six of them fighting in North Africa and over Sicily. Lt. Bland's wife, and a daughter whom he had never seen, visited his relatives here last month.
