About 2nd Lieut. Arthur Bernard Ayling
Arthur Ayling was the son of Stanley and Minnie Edna Ayling. Native of Thames, New Zealand. Accidentally wounded (bomb wound hand) at the Somme 10/9/1916. Recovered at Brockenhurst. Wounded in action, 4/11/1918. Died of wounds 4/11/1918 at the No. 2 N.Z. Field Ambulance Dressing Station. Arthur's brother, Herbert Ayling (2/128) also died in World War 1. 2/Lieutenant in NZRB, file number 23/58.
