About 2nd. Lt. John Leonard Dawson Lyon
".....in the army on the 5th November 1914 becoming private 3496 of the 2/14th London Regiment. At the time he lived at 29 Lancaster Park in Richmond he declared his religion as Christian scientist.
He applied for a commission in 1915 3rd May and granted the rank of 2/Lt the 5th Bedfordshire regiment.On 29th febuary 1916 he was posted to Egypt.He was at Mena Camp Cairo guarding the pyramids and the Suez Canal.John was taken seriously ill on 5th May 1916 and was admitted to 2/1st East Anglian field ambulance and taken to El Kubri transferring to the Goverment hospital in Suez.
John died from a cerebral haemorrhage on the 6th May 1916 aged 19yrs. He is buried in the British military cemetery on site now known as the Suez War Memorial Cemetery, it is a small well kept peaceful place looked after by the War Graves Commission.Amongst his effects were a ox of small stones which appear to related to his religion....."
