William McClung born probably in County Antrim, Ireland Emigrated from Ireland to America about 1740. He landed at Philadelphia and settle for awhile in Lancaster Co. Pa. About 1742, he emigrated with his brothers, James and Hugh to Augusta county, VA

His daughter Susan, married son of Robert Alexander, who is now listed as the first rector of Washington and Lee University. Another daughter married Co. Samuel McDowel. He was the brother of Col. James McDowell, who was the father of Gov. James McDowell.... The following is a copy of his will dated 20th September 1783....names two sons, James and John, grandson, Thomas McClung, son in law, Samuel Lyle, grandson William Lyle
