Louis-Emmanuel de Valois was the Duke of Angoulême; Earl of Lauraguais, Alais and Ponthieu; Lord of Escüen, Preaus, Tancarville,Montigny and Sezanne; Baron of Coucy and Folembray; Chevalier of the orders of the King; Colonel General of the King's Light Horse Cavalry; and Governor of Provence.
He was the son of Charles de Valois (1573-1650) and Charlotte de Montmorency. He was a grandson of King Charles IX of France and his mistress Marie Touche. He succeeded to the title of Duc d'Angoulême in 1650
He married Henriette de la Guiche, Lady of Chaumont, on February 8, 1629. The children of Louis-Emmanuel and Henriette were:
- Louis (1630-1637) Count of Auvergne;
- Marie Françoise (1632-1696) 3rd Duchess of Angoulême;
- Armand (1635-1639) Count of Auvergne; and
- François (1639-1644) Count of Auvergne. In addition, he had an illegitimate son:
- Antoine Charles Louis (1648/49-1701), who was legitimized on 4 September 1677.
