About Edward Plantagenet, 17th Earl of Warwick

Edward Plantagenet, 17th Earl of Warwick

Edward, Earl of Warwick, son of George Duke of Clarence and Isabel Neville, by beheading on Tower Green. After the death of King Richard III’s son, Edward of Middleham, in 1484, the 10-year-old Warwick was named the heir to the throne. The young Earl of Warwick was seen as a great threat to King Henry VII and kept a prisoner in the Tower from 1485 until 1499. A plot between Warwick and Perkin Warbeck for Warwick’s escape was alleged and for that he was executed. By his death the Plantagenet male line became extinct.

"Edward Plantagenet, 17th Earl of Warwick (25 February 1475 – 28 November 1499) was the son of George Plantagenet, 1st Duke of Clarence, and a potential claimant to the English throne during the reigns of both Richard III (1483–1485) and his successor, Henry VII (1485–1509). He was also a younger brother of Margaret Pole, 8th Countess of Salisbury."
