About Sir George Simpson
SIR GEORGE SIMPSON
Governor-in-Chief of the Hudson's Bay Company, 1820-60
Bogus Genealogy
Sir George Simpson, here treated, has been identified as the son of George Simpson and his wife Margaret Cargill in a number of different pedigrees published by MyHeritage. MyHeritage See below for other examples of this error. This is wrong. Sir George Simpson was the bastard son of George Simpson, writer in Dingwall Red River Ancestry and Margaret Cargill's husband was a fisherman at Newhaven of Ethie in Angus. This is confirmed by the death registration of their daughter Janet Simpson. [National Records of Scotland, Statutory Register of Death for 1857, registration district number 280 (Craig in Angus), entry number 20] Image of Death Registrations It follows, therefore, that Sir George Simpson, here treated, is not the same person as George Simpson, Fisherman at Newhaven of Ethie
