Karl Korn (born in Wadowice in 1852, died in Bielsko-Biała in 1906) was born to a Jewish family in Wadowice. He completed with distinction a school in Opawa, and then he studied architercure at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and at the University of Vienna. Then he settled down in Bielsk, where he was an assistant teacher at the technical school. He married Paula, nee Tugendhat, and had three sons: Felix, Otton and Fritza. In 1882 he set up a building and architecture company, "Karl Korn". He owned a brickyard, a quarry in Straconka, a sawmill, and the "Kaiserhof" hotel (now the "President" Hotel) from 1889 to 1904 in Bielsk. He was also one of the people who gave the city image to the centre of Bielsko-Białą. Franz Joseph I, Emperor of Austria, gave him the title of a building advisor to the emperor and king ("kaiserlicher und königlicher Baurat”).
In 1998 the authorities of the town of Bielsko-Biała honored Karl Korn by giving his name to one of the streets.[1.1]. http://www.sztetl.org.pl/en/article/bielsko-biala/10,people-lists-o...
