Harlan Ellison

Harlan Jay Ellison (May 27, 1934 – June 27, 2018) was an American writer, known for his prolific and influential work in speculative fiction, and for his outspoken, combative personality.

One of his favorite stunts to draw attention to the art of writing was to start and complete an entire short story while sitting in the windows of bookstores in Paris, London, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and New Orleans.

Ellison was born to a Jewish family in Cleveland, Ohio, on May 27, 1934, the son of Serita (née Rosenthal) and Louis Laverne Ellison, a dentist and jeweler.

הוא התפרסם באופן יוצא דופן בעיקר כמחבר סיפורים קצרים, כתסריטאי של אחד התסריטים המפורסמים ביותר של סדרת "מסע בין כוכבים" וכן כיועץ לסדרות הטלוויזיה אזור הדמדומים (גרסת 1980) ובבילון 5. לצידם, יצירתו המפורסמת ביותר היא האנתולוגיה שערך "חזיונות מסוכנים", שנועדה לעורר סערה כשפורסמה בסוף שנות השישים בארצות הברית. ב-2006 היה הסופר ה-23 שזכה בפרס ה"גרנד מאסטר" (הקרוי החל מ-2002 פרס דיימון נייט), פרס מפעל חיים, המחולק החל מ-1975 לסופר מדע בדיוני אחד, פעם בשנה או שנתיים, לצדו של טקס חלוקת פרס נבולה.[2]
