Colonel at twenty years of the regiment of Provence , he fought in America , then, always very in favor, was charged with diplomatic missions ( 1784 - 1790 ). Finally he emigrated.
In 1796 , he married a Creole from Martinique , Émilie Pocquet de Puilhery, whose fortune, then considerable, allowed him to have a fairly good house in London . The future Charles X dined there sometimes, and the other princes very frequently. From this union was born a daughter, Georgine Dillon, with whom the King of Prussia Frederick William III fell very much in love during her father's ministry in Dresden , to the point of wanting to marry her at all costs. Georgine refused and will marry the May 25 , 1820Count Károlyi, Hungarian magnate .
In 1814 , Édouard Dillon was appointed lieutenant-general and master of the wardrobe of the future Charles X. He followed Louis XVIII to Ghent , then was appointed Minister of France in The Hague , in Dresden ( 1816 - 1818 ), then in Florence .
