Banker. Brother of A. P. Giannini, founder of Bank of America. He died unexpectedly at the home of Frank Powell at his mansion on Fremont Place, Los Angeles while attending a Board of Regents meeting for the Loyola University. A priest in attendance administered the last rites of the Catholic church on the scene. He first became a medical doctor and served as a physician in the Spanish American War, was President of the San Francisco Medical Society and had been a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. He later became interested in the motion picture industry, came to Los Angeles and provided the funds for many of the film companies when others would not. He was President of United Artists in 1936-38. He was heavily involved in charitable organizations and the USO and Red Cross. His funeral was attended by Mary Pickford, Harold Lloyd, Louis B. Mayer, Joseph Schenck, the Mayor of San Francisco and it took 5 truckloads to deliver the flowers to the cemetery.
