Abel Willison, was born in Flintstone, Maryland, August 15, 1802, married Miss Melinda "Melindy" Casteel. about 1833. Abel was an energetic man that passed his energy and talents on down to his children.
Abel was a cattle drover, obtaining his cattle in Ohio & taking them east for sale. He later became a tanner and shoemaker, and, with his eldest son, went into business at Gratiot, Ohio, which he continued for several years. He died near North Manchester, Indiana, Nov 22, l867 at the age of 67. Mrs Willison's death occurred just eight days previously she was 56. Of their children, the four sons were in the Union army during the Civil War.
Abel's father's name was John Willison, he married Dorcas Moore, he was from Cumberland, Maryland. His grandfather, Jeremiah Willison was a native of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and married Miss Sarah Death. He moved to Maryland, and was Crier of the first Court ever held in Cumberland.
