Al die Duvenage, Duvenhage en ander spelvorms van die van in Suid-Afrika is direkte familie van mekaar! Daar was net een STAMVADER, Abraham Duvinage, wat in 1765 in Cabo De Goede Hoop (Kaapstad) aangekom het.

Abraham het die volgende inskrywing in 'n ou Bybel gemaak : -

"In het jaar onzes Heeren Jezu Christi 1744 den 9 Maart ben ik Abraham Duvinage geboren. 1765 den 11 October ben ik hier in Africa arrifiert. 1770 den 9 Dezember ben ik in den huwelijken getreden met Elzabe Magdalena Hasse. Zy is geboren in het jaar 1753 den 27 Junij."

Abraham het as soldaat aan wal gestap en later 'n bakker en boer geword. Almal van ons wat 'n Duvenage, Duvenhage of du Venage vader of moeder het, is die nageslag van Abraham se TWEE seuns.

Tien jaar het verloop sedert die eerste publikasie van die boek, "Die Duvenage, Duvenhage du Venage Familie in Suid-Afrika 1765 - 1995" Intussen het daar heelwat water in die see geloop. In ons almal se gesinne en families was daar gebeurtenisse soos geboortes, dope, sterftes, prestasies en ander. Daar is nog baie leemtes in die familie wat gevul moet word in die huidige en ouer geslagte.

The smaller part of the Huguenot parishioners fly to Dover, the greater to Cadsen (Holland). Jean du Vinage flees farther on the Middelburg on the isle of Walcheren in the Dutch province of Zeeland.

On 29/11/1685, he, his wife Marie du Riez and his three minor children were received in the reformed parish of Middelburg and there naturalized on 07/01/1686.

The great Elector Frederic William of Brandenburg was in search of colonists. In the spring of 1687 Jean du Vinage became a farmer at Rossouw in the Uckermark (near Pasewalk).

I. Jean du Vinage, born at Calais 1644, died at Rossouw 27/03/1706. His wife Marie du Riez, died at Rossouw 15/11/1698.

II. Son: Jean du Vinage, born at St. Pierre-les-Calais 23/08/1684. Died at Rossouw 15/06/1724. Farmer at Rossouw. He married 23/03/1706 Francoise Villian (William). Died at Rossouw 09/09/1755. 72 years old.

III. Their son is Jean du Vinage. Born at Rossouw 04/04/1712. Died at Rossouw 15/03/1775. Farmer, “Maire et Aucien” of the French reformed church at Rossow. Note; from here the author writes Rossow. He married 25/11/172- Catherine Malfrujon.

a. (Frujon) born at Uckermunde near Pasewalk, died at Rossow 01/07/1744 36 years old.
b. 03/12/1744 Marie William, born at Zerrenthin near Rossow 09/01/1726, died at Rossow 24/10/1760.
c. 20/02/1761 Jeanne Sy, died at Rossow 27/03/1818. 76 years old, her second husband Daniel William received the estate of the du Vinage. Estate and house still exist at Rossow. Jean du Vinage later on wrote his name Duvinage. He had from his first marriage 9 children, from the second 7, from the third 8 children:-

1. Pierre Duvinage, farmer at Schwedt (Oder) founder of the “Schwedter Linie”
2. Abraham Duvinage, founder of the “Sudafrika-Linie”. See IV.

From his second marriage descend:-
3. Isaac Duvinage, brandy-distiller at Stettin, founder of the “Altere Stettiner Linie”.
4. Jacques Duvinage, farmer at Pasewalk, my great-great-grand father, founder of the “Pasewalk-Linie”.

From his third marriage descend:-

5. Daniel Duvinage, farmer at Strasburg Uckermark, founder of the “Strasburger Linie”.
6. Charles Duvinage, carrier (Fuhrherr) and Elder (“Ancien”) of the French reformed church at Stettin, founder of the “Jungere Stettiner Linie”.
7. Philipp Duvinage, baker and confectioner at Greifenhagen near Stettin, founder of the “Greifenhagen Linie”.
8. Jean Duvinage, brewer at Prenslau, founder of the “Prenzlauer-Linie”.
This lineage has ceased to exist, the other lines flourish.

IV. Abraham Duvinage (later on Duvenage) born at Rossow 06/03/1744, baptised at Rossow 13/03/1744, went from Rossow to Stettin, and from Stettin to Cape Town.

It was known to the Paswalker Linie and the “Schwedster Linie” that

Abraham reis vanaf Amsterdam op die "Nieuwkerk" op 18 Junie 1765 en arriveer op 13 Oktober 1765 in die Kaap as soldaat vir die VOC [was op pad na Batavia maar besluit om op 24 Oktober die skip te verlaat en in die mooie Kaap agter te bly.] , Hy word vryburger en kry later 'n bakkers lisensie in Kaapstad. Daarna boer hy en sy twee seuns in Graaf Reinet distrik en keer leter terug na Kaapstad. Sometimes referred to as "Abraham Duvinaar of Stettin".

ABRAHAM DUVINAGE is die stamvader van alle Duvenage, Duvenhage, du Venage en ander du Vinage nasate in Suid-Afrika.

S (1) ABRAHAM DUVINAGE Gebore op 06-03-1744 te Rossow, in die distrik Prenzlau, Brandenburg, Uckermark (Noord-Oos Duitsland, naby Pole) Hy word op 13-03-1744 gedoop te Bergholz, Stettin Hy was die seun van Jean du Vinage en Catherine Malfrujon. Na sy moeder Catherine se dood, het sy vader Jean, nog twee maal getrou. Jean het altesaam 24 (vier-en-twintig) kinders by sy drie vrouens gehad.

ABRAHAM was die negende en laaste kind uit Jean se eerste huwelik. Hy arriveer in 1765 in die Kaap as soldaat, word vryburger en trou in 1770. Hy kry later 'n bakkerslisensie in Kaapstad. Daarna boer hy en sy twee seuns in Graaff-Reinet distrik. Later keer hy terug na Kaapstad. Daar sterf hy op 73 jarige ouderdom op 20-03-1817 te Buitengrachtstraat 11, Kaapstad.

Hy trou op 09-12-1770 te Kaapstad met Elsabe Magdalena Hasse, gebore op 27-06-1753 in Kaapstad. Sy is op 01-07-1753 in Kaapstad gedoop. Sy sterf op 27-05-1782 te Graaff-Reinet, net 29 jaar oud. Sy was die dogter van Johann Hasse van Braunschweig, bekende silwersmid aan die Kaap, en Anna Dorothea Meintjies van den Berg ~ 05-07-1711, weduwee van Matthias Lotter.
