Aadne Jr died in Morristown, South Dakota in 1937.

This memorial serves as a tribute to the man and a placeholder as we haven't located the exact site of his grave. We believe it is in Morristown but it might be in Fort Ransom. Until the exact site is found, this memorial reunites Aadne Jr back to his family once again.

The 2nd of 10 children of Aadne Sr and Johanna Hoiland, Aadne Jr was born in October 1856 in Rushford Minnesota. His father was a skilled carpenter and farmer who immigrated to the US from Norway and raised 10 children while settling the plains.

Adne Jr and his brothers soon took up the family business of farming on homestead tracts. The Hoilands broke sod in Minnesota, Decorah Iowa, Fort Ransom and in Kathryn North Dakota. This would not have been an easy task with Sitting Bull, the Sioux tribe and Custer fighting the Indian Wars on the same prairie.

Aadne Jr married a Norwegian Immigrant, Karin "Carrie" Nelson and 4 children were born to their union including their sons Eddie, Henry and William. Their daughter Helen Marie succumbed to illness at only 1 yr of age.

Aadne and Carrie later divorced but he lived closeby his family in Fort Ransom for the remainder of his life. Aadne Hoiland Jr had 4 brothers John, Anton, Andrew, and Albert plus 5 sisters Sara, Hanna, Bertha, Mary and Emma.
